About the Municipality

Örnsköldsvik is a very strong municipality when it comes to export, with approx. 3.5 percent of Sweden´s export, despite the fact that only 0.6 percent of Sweden´s population live here. Large companies and manufacturing industries have long dominated the scene in Örnsköldsvik. New developmental areas are now shooting up as well as new forms of cooperation, and every effort is being made to attract more consultative companies and expertise to the Municipality.

One area that is experiencing great expansion is the Inner Harbour District. This has become somewhat of a centre for education and consultative companies. The Mid Sweden university and Umeå University offer many courses including several engineering and economic courses, as well as language, nursing, sociology and IT courses.

MoDo - one of Sweden´s most successful ice-hockey clubs - is based in Örnsköldsvik, and is well-known for fostering many great hockey players, including such Swedish pros in the National Hockey League as Peter Forsberg, Niklas Sundström, Markus Näslund, Henrik and Daniel Sedin.
